In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nebula is a Luphomoid assassin, and an adopted daughter of the intergalactic warlord, Thanos. She is also the adopted sister of Gamora. She served as the right-hand woman of Ronan the Accuser during his and Thanos’ quest to retrieve the Orb.

Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, interviewed that she found the sibling rivalry between Nebula and Gamora to be one of the most interesting aspects of Nebula’s persona. In the comics, Nebula and Gamora were often pitted against each during training under Ronan the Accuser. During one such fight, Gamora threw Nebula off a cliff, where she sustained intense injuries and had to be fitted with cybernetic enhancements. So on screen, we saw how that rivalry informed Nebula’s character. There was sneering, chiding, sarcasm, and outwards aggression in the form of a really badass fight scene. Though Nebula is a villain, she doesn’t have the best relationship with her adoptive father, Thanos, either. Thanos has brainwashed her into believing in the objective of “purging all that is weak” from the galaxy. That said, she’s no blind, worshipful follower.

Nebula is one of the most visually striking characters seen on screen. There’s an efficient, deadly beauty to her that is appealing even though she’s ruthlessly cold. As the first female villain in the MCU, Nebula’s design had to leave a lasting impact. With a full team of costumers and makeup artists, it took Karen Gillan over four hours to get into costume and full makeup.

Now, just think of the work it takes for a cosplayer to do the same. Gaze in awe at AmberSkies astounding cosplay of Nebula. The amount of work put into this and the attention to detail is just incredible. Just look at the perfection of her makeup and that robot arm. Add in the handmaid costume and the perfectly replicated weapons, and this is a professional quality cosplay that is camera ready for film. As with Karen Gillan, it takes AmberSkies hours of prep and a lot of patience to get into Nebula’s cosplay. But where Karen shaved her head for the role, AmberSkies has to hide her hair under a bald cap. That, in and of itself, takes time and expertise. The finished work is jaw-dropping.
