Harmonix has teamed up with Hidden Path Entertainment, makers of Counter Strike: GO and Defense Grid, to co-develop a new and unique musical first person shooter! Chroma will combine all of the normal first person shooter standards, such as score and time based challenges and multiple classes with the rhythmic timing and button mashing of Rock Band!

Chroma gameplay will be dependent on the song that starts at the beginning of every match, and music will play as you fire your weapons. Players must keep close attention to the beat of the song in order to hit every move and gain damage bonuses. Class ranges for the game will range anywhere from extremely traditional shooter styles like their Assault type class, which has players utilizing a submachine gun with little regard to the timing and beat of the song, to intense rhythmic challenges, like the battle with the Engineer and his pair of beat crazy pistols. There are plenty of classes in between that make up a good mix of the two genres as well, including the Support Class for healing, and the brutal but slow moving Tank Class.

Chroma will be a free to play title, and there will be plenty of extra maps, music, and new modes to purchase later if you just can’t get enough. While the game is still early in development, Harmonix is hoping for a fall release for PC, though the possibility of other systems having the game is not out of the question.
