PlayStation 4

InFAMOUS: Second Son (March 21, 2014)

infamous-second-son-screenshot-1

The third main entry to the brilliant InFAMOUS series is leading up to be one of the biggest titles of 2014 for the Playstation 4. The game features new protagonist, Delsin, seven years after the previous installment and the powers are getting even crazier. It is the sort of game that players have been looking forward to in terms of seeing what the Playstation 4 can do. The InFAMOUS series has continuously provided brilliant storylines as well as amazing gameplay, but teaming that with a fresh approach to the story and the updated graphics and power of the Playstation 4 will no doubt make the game a hit.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (March 18, 2014)

metal-gear-solid-5

As a staple in the history of Playstation consoles, Metal Gear Solid was sure to hit the next-gen scene pretty quickly. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will take all of you MetalHeads back in time to 1975 to battle it out with Big Boss, and it is likely to be a serious game changer for the mysterious character. While it isn’t a Sony exclusive like many Metal Gear games of the past, the traditionalists and Sony lovers should add it to their must buy list for the Playstation 4!

Destiny (September 9, 2014)

destiny-screenshot-20

Bungie has taken on a huge project in Destiny, and from what we have seen it is living up to their expectations of being a “living” game. Destiny is taking bits and pieces from popular elements in gaming, from action RPG to first person shooter and throwing them into a massive open world Sci-fi game that is sure to have something for gamers of all types. The game will be releasing for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 (as well as Xbox One and Xbox 360) and if it lives up to the hype, it will be money well spent.

Outlast (2014)

outlast

While the game is already out on PC, Outlast is looking to breathe fresh new life into the slowly dying genre of “true” survival horror for the Playstation 4. In a world where most horror games are now fully action based and loaded with guns, Outlast takes an old school approach and brings it to next gen. The main character Miles has nothing more at his disposal than his hiding and stealth skills (and a camera with night vision!) to help him navigate his way through an insane asylum full of unbalanced inmates with bad intentions and some mysterious supernatural forces. Combine a creepy asylum with no weapons and realistic next gen graphics and what do you get? Terror, you get terror.

Watch Dogs (2014)

watch-dogs-22

Watch Dogs, while it is releasing on multiple platforms, is a game that has been gaining a lot of attention from folks, and it is one that has remained on everyone’s radar. Set in a fictional version of Chicago, Illinois and taking a page from the 1995 movie, Hackers, it will test the hacking and parkour skills of gamers and push them to their limits. Combine your cyber knowledge with some third person shooting skills and your ability to sneak around in the shadows, and you have a pretty interesting game on the horizon.

Driveclub (Early 2014)

driveclub-mercedes

Driveclub comes from the makers of MotorStorm, Evolution Studios, but don’t expect it to be full of muddy, off road antics. No, Driveclub is a road racing game that will be one of the most realistic to date. As an added bonus, fans who preorder the title that also have Playstation Plus will get the chance to purchase a special edition copy of the game!

Daylight (Early 2014)

daylight

The Zombie Studios survival horror title will be ready to scare people sometime in early 2014, and much like Outlast, Daylight takes a much more “survival” approach than some of the more recent games in the genre. The player will be equipped with nothing more than their cell phone (which is pretty realistic when you think about it), and a lack of memory. You wake up in an abandoned hospital with no idea about how you got there, and you quickly realize that things are much more sinister than they initially appear.

The Elder Scrolls Online (June 2014)

Elder-Scrolls-Online

Fans of the long running Elder Scrolls series have been waiting a long time for Elder Scrolls Online. Finally the series is dipping its toes into the MMO pool, and it’s about time. The series has been leading in this direction for ages and it will come packed with everything fans love about the beloved games and more in a huge, non-linear massive open world game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (TBA 2014)

the-witcher-3-wild-hunt

The Witcher 3 boasts one of the biggest living open world environments of any Open world RPG games, and will bring on the epic conclusion in the saga of Geralt of Rivera. The release date for the game is nothing more than speculation, with Q2 2014 being an early estimate, but hey, we can hope, right?

The Order: 1886

the-order-1886

The Order: 1886 is one of the most promising Playstation 4 exclusives on the horizon. The game expands on an alternate timeline in history, where humans are in the midst of long standing war with human/beast hybrids. With the industrial revolution taking the battles to whole new levels, and new threats from the lower class, the game is non-stop intensity and is sure to be one of breakout hits for Playstation 4.

PlayStation 3

Tales of Zestira (TBA)

tales-of-zestiria-screenshot-4

Ok, so we don’t know an official date for when we will see Tales of Zestira, but I am too excited about the game to not mention it. It’s a new Tales game! We don’t have many details about the anticipated RPG, but we do know that the game will be returning to its pure fantasy roots, and I say bring on the dragons!

Dark Souls 2 (March 2014)

dark-souls-2-covenants-1

Some of us just love a good challenge (or getting our ass handed to us, whichever way you choose to look at it) so the release of Dark Souls II is one we are anxiously waiting for. The first one was nothing short of brilliant, and while the second one has no direct relation to the contents of the first, there is no doubt that it will be an emotional and difficult ride.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (February 2014)

final-fantasy-xiii-lightning-returns

Lightning is back for another round, and this time, Square is changing things up. The world is much of the same, and we will almost certainly see plenty of familiar faces and enemies, but this time we only have seven days to save the world. It is a much needed, fresh challenge in the series, and for those of us invested in the life and story of Lightning and Cocoon, it is a must play.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (February 2014)

castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2-7

The upcoming sequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow gets even darker and gritty that its predecessor. You spend your time in the game with Dracula and his crazy Blood Whip, fighting off the horde of people trying to bring about your demise, including your own son. And one of the best parts about it? You don’t have to wait very long to play it. It will be out next month!

South Park: The Stick of Truth (March 2014)

South-Park-A-Stick-of-Truth-3

There is just no way on the planet earth that this new South Park game won’t be full of fun, adventure, and inappropriate shenanigans, especially with Matt Stone and Trey Parker at the helm of the script. Though the game has had its fair share of delays, it is def one to throw on your 2014 list of must haves.

PS Vita

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (March 2014)

final-fantasy-x-hd-screenshot-8

For those of us that can’t get enough HD remakes and have issues with nostalgia, Final Fantasy X/X-2 is one we have to have. It is coming out for the Playstation 3 as well, and there are plenty of us that cannot wait to revisit Spira and take that emotional journey once again.

Minecraft (2014)

minecraft

Minecraft is coming to the Vita soon, and gamers everywhere (who aren’t playing it on a mobile phone already) are rejoicing. Taking your addiction with you everywhere you go is only going to further your obsession, so you might as well embrace it, folks, and the Vita is the ideal way to do it.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (February 2014)

danganronpa

This quirky title is finally coming to North America! The Phoenix Wright-like gameplay set in an elite high school has all kinds of intrigue and mystery. You get to put your best detective skills to use to solve a murder, and it is perfect for those looking for something different to play.

Oddworld: New ‘n Tasty (Spring 2014)

Oddworld__Abe_s_Oddysee_New_N__Tasty

Though Oddworld: New ‘n Tasty is coming out on several platforms, it is one of the few PS Vita titles that people are really excited about. The HD remake of the 1997 released Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is a true classic, so old school fans are stoked to download it, and it is a must buy for those of you that missed it the first time around.

Let’s be honest here, there are more titles that we know we are going to see eventually, though they are unlikely to make their appearance in 2014, like Kingdom Hearts 3 or the next Uncharted installment. But now that the Playstation 4 is here, and the Playstation 3 is still pumping out great titles, as well as the Vita, It is a safe bet that it is going to be a great year in gaming for Sony fans!
