Square Enix has announced that they would be dropping the subscription service on PlayStation 3. From May 1st until the end of the service, fans will no longer have to pay a subscription fee for the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

“During the campaign period, players who have only registered the PlayStation 3 version without subscribing for any number of days will be unable to utilize additional services or website related features such as logging into the Lodestone,” Square Enix notes. This also marks the end of buying game time and retainer services. If your account only has the PlayStation 3 registered for it, these will no longer be available to you.

This all makes sense, considering Square Enix plans to drop support for the PlayStation 3 version of the game after Stormblood launches. If you are still playing on the PlayStation 3, now would be a great time to start looking into upgrading to the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The upgrade is completely free and you will get to stay with a supported version of the game.
