Today Rockstar announced that Free Mode Events will be coming to Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto V. The announcement was made by a video over on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel, which you can check out below.

“Taking full advantage of the latest generation of consoles and PC hardware, there are no menus, lobbies, or load times – just an open Freemode session filled with Friends, Crewmates, rivals, and randoms where spontaneous and chaotic new games and challenges will appear,” the developer explained. Once entered, one of three events are chosen by the players. They are:

  • King of the Castle: Players must fight to ascend and claim the designated ‘castle’ as their territory and then defend it.
  • Hunt the Beast: One volunteer is temporarily transformed into a faster, stronger, beastly character who must escape relentless pursuers.
  • Penned In: Players must stay inside the designated area, while simultaneously trying to force other players out.

The update will also add two Adversity Modes: Hunting Pack, in which players must deliver a package that’ll explode if the player drives under a certain speed, and Cross the Line, which sees players face off in a neutral zone and working together to take over another team’s zone.

The update is set to go live on September 15th, and is only for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V, which is available now.
