The Walking Dead: The Game Episode 1 Review for iOS. Even your iPad Isn’t Safe From A Zombie Attack!
The Walking Dead: The Game Episode 1 is the first installment of the series for iOS. It follows the story of main character Lee Everett and his journey through the outbreak of the Zombie Apocalypse. It features unique graphics and a story that can change based on your choices and actions throughout the game.
As the story begins, we are introduced to the main character, Lee Everett, who is riding in the back of a police car on his way to prison. Soon the car hits a zombie and he’s thrown into the woods with a small crapload of undead surrounding him. He narrowly escapes, finds a lone first-grade survivor, Clementine, and together they head off in search of safety. Thus begins The Walking Dead: The Game, Episode 1 for the iPad.
If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead TV series, you’ll recognize some familiar names and faces. They may not look like the TV versions, but Glen and Herschel both make an appearance. You may see more Walking Dead favorites in the 4 yet-to-be-released episodes but, for the most part, this is a new cast of survivors.
The graphics are impressive. Unique comic-style animation brings the story to life. The detailed characters and environments, along with the voice acting and sound, really add to the suspense of the game. There is a great variety of zombies, so you encounter a nice range of gruesome faces and rotting bodies on your journey.
The touch-and-swipe gameplay on the iPad is easy to pick up on and learn. Environments display multiple interaction points that you can hover over for more information, use to pick up items, open doors, talk to people, etc. Destroying an attacking Walker with your bare hands requires a rapid button-tap kill. If you’re lucky enough to come across a weapon, feel free to bash that sucker’s head in with 3-5 taps of fury.
It’s not just zombie killing in this game. The characters ask Lee questions, and you’ll have a limited amount of time to pick one of the available responses. Your decisions have consequences. The other characters will remember what you say, how you say it, if you’ve lied, and so on. Loyalty or disloyalty is recognized, and affects your relationships and outcomes.
This game is well worth the $4.99 price. Players will have the option to purchase the future episodes for $4.99 each, or can purchase a Multi-Pack for $14.99. While you may not want to play this episode again and again, the replayability should increase as future episodes are released.
The story is the real star of this game. This may not be filled with action-packed zombie-killing , but its story line is definitely suspenseful, captivating, and will leave you wanting more.
