Jared Leto Gaining Weight to Play Joker in “Suicide Squad”
The insane, uncontrollable Joker has been portrayed by outstanding actors, including Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Jared Leto is now stepping into the iconic role in DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and he’s working hard to fill those shoes.
Attempting to bulk up a little and gain weight for the role, Leto politely asked to eat during a recent interview with Billboard and, apparently, the meal of choice was vegan tacos. Leto had to drop 40 pounds for his role in Dallas Buyers Club and is working on gaining it back. At least his methods are precise.
Leto was announced to play Joker back in December and will join Will Smith, who’s playing Deadshot. Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne is Enchantress, Jai Courtney is Boomerang and Joel Kinnaman is possibly filling the shoes of Rick Flag. Viola Davis is to be playing the role as A.R.G.U.S. member Amanda Waller.
Leto enjoys complex characters and the level of the graphic novels drew him in to do something great with the Joker. “The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character—that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right? [He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character—what a big challenge.”
Suicide Squad is set to burst down the doors at theaters around the world August 5, 2016.
