“Machete Kills” adds Lady Gaga to the Cast

Just when you thought Lady Gaga’s career couldn’t get any more interesting, she is hitting the big screen in the new Robert Rodriguez film, “Machete Kills”. Gaga will be playing the role of Lady Chameleon.

“Machete Kills” is the next installment in the “Machete” trilogy, and the sequel to Rodriguez’s 2010 film, “Machete”. The Machete character was first introduced in Rodriguez’s 2001 film, “Spy Kids”.  “Machete” was an expansion of a fake movie trailer that appeared in Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 “Grindhouse.” In this next installment, Machete is recruited by the U.S. government to travel through Mexico to stop a cartel leader and an arms dealer who has launched a weapon into space.

Rodriguez revealed the Gaga casting in the following tweet earlier today: “I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills,” Rodriguez tweeted. “She kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!”

Gaga also confirmed the news to her millions of Twitter fans: “Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress in the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ,” Gaga tweeted. “IM SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane.”

Lady Gaga joins a star-studded cast that includes Mel Gibson, Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Zoe Saldana, Alexa Vega, Sofia Vergara and Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States (yes, really). Vega, who will play a character named Killjoy in the film, posted a steamy Instagram photo of herself in costume earlier today. Looks like she’s come a long way since “Spy Kids”!

“Machete Kills” is scheduled for release in 2013. With Robert Rodriguez’s direction and the amazing cast he’s assembled, it promises to be a wild ride!
