We were at San Diego Comic-Con in July when the official logo, title and release date of the Thor sequel were announced. Now we are learning more details about where many of the epic scenes for Thor: The Dark World will be filmed.

It is confirmed that several scenes for Thor 2  will be filmed underground in the tunnels of London. It’s not clear what setting the tunnels are meant to depict, but one of the stunt men was rumored to have told to the media he was hired to play “an elf”. If this is true, he may have been referring to the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, who appear in the comic and live in caves and underground dwellings. It’s also unknown whether the tunnel scenes take place on Earth, on Asgard, or someplace completely different.

A second possible fiming location in Bourne Wood, England has also been revealed. The local residents have received a written notice about upcoming filming of action sequences featuring a “comic book hero” and set in a “fictional realm”. The letter describes what promises to be an epic battle scene:

“We will be establishing a fictional village set in another realm, with yurts and village like dressing in the bowl. The sequence involves a battle between two kingdoms, ending in our comic book hero arriving to save the day. The sequence will involve a substantial amount of Stunts and controlled special effects all within the hours 0700 – 1900hrs.

We plan to use most of the areas that are usually occupied by film units for all our support vehicles. The sequence will involve approximately 300 extras who will arrive in the early hours prior to call time to go through costume and makeup.”

While the letter doesn’t mention Thor specifically, you can draw your own conclusions.

Thor: The Dark World  is directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimidall, Zachary Levi as Fandral and Jaimie Alexander as Sif. While the plot details are still under wraps, you can be sure that Thor will be bringing his massive hammer down on some bad guys, beginning on November 8th, 2013.
