PlayStation 2 Emulation On PlayStation 4 Confirmed

Sony has recently confirmed that PlayStation 2 emulation technology will allow you to play your favorite PS2 games on your PlayStation 4. Just not right away.

A Sony representative recently told Wired, “we are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this time.” Earlier this week, the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle was released with three PlayStation 2 titles; Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Shortly after the release, Digital Foundry discovered that the three titles were running on the PlayStation 4 via emulation software, a video of which you can check out below.

This means that the software simulates a PS2 by making the Dualshock 4 touchpad act as a Start and Select button. They have also implemented a PS2 memory card system for game saves. Additionally, it seems that the emulation technology also upgrades the games with an increased resolution and frame-rate.
