Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) has been tapped to direct Star Trek 3. The film is slated to take over the galaxy on July 8, 2016. No other new details have managed to get out, but we do know that Robert Orci has been working on the script along with a couple of other writers. The first two installments were helmed by J.J. Abrams, who has his hands full with the new Star Wars trilogy.
If all goes according to schedule, casting should start no later than spring, with filming in the summer. We can only hope that this film will be as great as the first two.
Since there are no plot or casting details, we wonder if the story will take place after the events of Star Trek Into Darkness or will be a standalone film. Will there be a new cast or will Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana be returning for one more adventure together?
