HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Will End After 7 or 8 Seasons
In recent interviews with Vanity Fair and EW, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, co-creators of HBO’s phenomenal Games of Thrones say that they foresee the series wrapping up after seven or eight seasons.
“We know there’s an end somewhere in the seven- or eight-season zone. It’s not something that goes ten, eleven — it doesn’t just keep on going because it can. I think the desire to milk more out of it is what would eventually kill it, if we gave in to that,” Weiss told Vanity Fair. “It feels like this is the midpoint for us,” Elaborated Benioff on the issue, particularly in regards to the approaching season, “If we’re going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season four is right down the middle, the pivot point.” The co-creators alluded to other popularly and critically successful shows such as The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Mad Men as guidelines for when the time is right to end a show.

Benioff and Weiss do have the additional guidelines of George R. R. Martin’s original novels in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, in which there are also set to be seven total installments. Martin’s books feature many narratives from the perspectives of multiple characters throughout the vast world and so far the HBO adaptation has opted to show as much of a comprehensive, concurrent view of all the characters stories a little bit at a time. Based on where the previous season left off, many fans expect that the next season will wrap up the events from the third book, A Storm of Swords, and continue into the events of the fourth and fifth books, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.
The much anticipated fourth season of Game of Thrones is set to continue the saga of Westeros and beyond starting April 6th of this year.
