The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Introduces Voice Acting To The Series

As a first for the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will feature fully voiced lines of dialogue. Fans can rest easy, however, as Link will stay the same silent protagonist that we all know and love.

While The Legend of Zelda has used small voice parts in their games before, such as Zelda singing in Skyward Sword, fully voiced characters is a first. While it is certainly a big change, great voice acting has the potential to make the world feel even more alive and bring more personality to the characters.

“It’s really difficult to leave an impression on players with just text,” series producer Eiji Aonuma told Polygon, explaining the change. “It’s not that I made everything voiced. But I have these moments where I want to leave impressions on users. I add voice there.”

Aonuma also mentioned why Link would stay silent. “If Link said something the user doesn’t agree with, that relationship between the user and Link would be lost,” he said. “That’s why I chose not to go with that.” The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to launch March 2017 for the Wii U and the Nintendo NX.
