Xena: Warrior Princess Reboot Coming to NBC

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a reboot of the popular Xena: Warrior Princess series is in development at NBC. The series will be brought to you by the team of Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, the creators/producers of the original Xena series.

The reboot, which is still in its early development stages, will bring on a new actress to play the role made famous by Lucy Lawless. Lawless (who is, incidentally, married to Tapert) is expected have a key role in the new Xena series, both on and off screen. Lawless is currently also starring in the new Ash vs. Evil Dead series on Starz.

Xena originated as an ill-fated guest character on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which starred Kevin Sorbo. The character was so popular that she eventually received her own spinoff, which developed a cult following and aired from 1995-2001.

The original action-adventure series follows Xena (Lawless), a female warrior seeking redemption for her past sins by helping those who are unable to defend themselves. She is accompanied by her loyal comrade Gabrielle (Renee O’Connor), who assists her in fighting the good fight.
