Activision Is Reportedly Working On A New Ghostbusters Game

It would appear that Platinum Games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game isn’t the only game based on a popular 80s property that Activision has up its sleeve. To be released alongside the reboot this summer, Activision is supposedly working on a new game based on Ghostbusters.

According to IGN, via Retail Merchandise, the game will release alongside the movie written and directed by Paul Feig, and is set to release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Activision themselves have yet to officially announce the title themselves, though it was confirmed by Mark Caplan, senior vice president of Sony’s Global Consumer Products, Caplan also being responsible for getting Ghostbusters rebooted in the firs place. The report also says that the success of 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game, combined with a popular toyline and a well received comic book series based on the 80s cartoon by IDW was the reason for the revitalization of the series.  However, it is important to point out that a lot of the popularity for the game was due in part to the fact that the movie’s original cast came back to reprise their roles for the game, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, the late Harold Ramis, and more.

Obviously, until Activision themselves confirm it themselves, take all of this with a grain of salt. The Ghostbusters reboot has had a bit of a rocky development, with many fans being critical of some of the choices being made, so to release a game based on this movie might not be the best way to go. Only time will tell of course if these new Ghostbusters are who we want to call if there’s something strange in our neighborhood, as the new Ghostbusters movie is set to release on July 15th of this year, but based on this info, I personally wouldn’t object to a new Ghostbusters game; especially if it were developed by someone like say, Platinum Games.
