Analyst Predicts Nintendo NX To Release This Year, Will ‘Cannablize’ Wii U And 3DS Sales

Ever since it was officially announced by former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata last year, there’s been speculation and rumors about what this mysterious new device would be. 2016 doesn’t seem to show any signs of that slowing down, but according to one analyst, the NX might actually be coming out this year.

Speaking to Barron’s Asia, analyst Junko Yamamura of Nomura Securities said that he suspects the NX will be available at year’s end, with a “concept unveiling” before E3, an official unveiling in June, and possibly a release in October or November. Quite a busy year for Nintendo if that’s all true. However, he did also say that while the NX will most likely do very well, it will also “cannibalize the existing sales of 3DS and Wii U”, due mainly to waning sales of both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

Obviously, this all just speculation, as we know next to nothing about what the NX will be, other than that it’s a game system and that it’s real. Still, it will certainly make 2016 an interesting year for Nintendo if the NX were to release this year.
