Avalanche Co-Founder: ‘PlayStation 4 Will Be More Powerful Than PC’

The Co-Founder of Avalanche Studios, Linus Blomberg has recently been quoted by GamingBolt to have said “I’m glad Sony decided to go with 8GB RAM because it means that the PlayStation 4 will out-power most PC’s for years to come.”

It’s no secret that of late, the best looking gaming experience has been the PC. The thing that really stands out from Blomberg’s statement is that he expects the PlayStation 4 to provide a better experience than what current PC’s can handle.

This comes as no surprise seeing as the PS4 announcement was received extremely well. One of the more interesting points of the interview came about when Blomberg started talking about the opportunities the new business model will open up for Avalanche Studios.

“The PlayStation 4 will not only be a very powerful gaming machine from a hardcore perspective, but it will also be a social tool and integrated marketplace more akin to the successful mobile devices”.

What’s interesting about this statement is that it shows that 2012 and 2013’s explosion of the free-to-play titles and micro-transactions probably isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. It also shows that developers believe that there is a place for cheaper games in the console market, which is arguably a good thing for both consumers and developers.

With more information on the next generation consoles almost assuredly coming in the near future, it will be interesting to see more developers share their opinions about the PlayStation 4 and the unnamed successor to the Xbox 360.
