Sir Ian McKellen

Beauty and the Beast Live-Action Film Casts Ian McKellen

We have a steady cast thus far for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast film; including Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Audra McDonald as Garderobe. The newest casting news is that Sir Ian McKellen will be joining as Cogsworth. Bill Condon, director of Twilight: Eclipse, is helming the film.

McKellen recently reprised his role as Gandalf in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and will also be seen in Mr. Holmes, which will be in theaters this summer on July 17.

Cogsworth is Beast’s loyal butler, turned clock under a massive spell that overtook the castle. The 1991 animated feature, Beauty and the Beast made $375 million worldwide and has broadened to a play and a few other animated versions of the film. Shall we mention to the film was up for an Oscar?

Disney is working on a slew of animated turned live action movies including Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo and The Jungle Book, just to name a few.

Production on Beauty and the Beast should begin soon to meet the March 17, 2017 release date.
