Expect The Next Legend of Zelda Game To Be “Something New”

Regardless of how you felt about the latest Nintendo Direct, one thing that many fans can agree on was disappointment about the lack of any news about the newest game in the The Legend of Zelda series. However, according to series director Eiji Aonuma, not only is the game coming along well, but it’s also going to be “something new” and different from what fans have come to expect.

This from the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which was translated by Kotaku. Though there isn’t much in the interview to go on, Aounuma did say that the game is coming along nicely and that fans can expect a change in the series, much like how Ocarina of Time brought the series into 3D. “I think the base of our secret sauce has always been Ocarina of Time“, he explained. “But this time, the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food. Perhaps, players will be surprised.”

“Please look forward to it, because I think we’ll be able to make ‘something new’ like Ocarina of Time was”, Aonuma concluded. We’ve already had hints of this in what few details we’ve gotten about the game before, including that the game will be influenced heavily by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Still, to mention Ocarina of Time like that is nothing small, as that it usually the game that people point to as not only one of the best in the series, but also a gold standard for 3D action games.

This new Legend of Zelda is set to release sometime in 2016 for the Wii U and possibly on the NX.
