Final Fantasy IX Headed to PC and Mobile

The PlayStation classic Final Fantasy IX is headed to PC and mobile platforms, according to an announcement made by Square Enix earlier today. The original game saw release back in July of 2000, and was the last numbered Final Fantasy game for the original Sony console. Unlike the 3D titles that preceded it, Final Fantasy IX draws heavy inspiration from the themes and settings of the first six Final Fantasy games, drawing heavily on the fantastical, with series director Hironobu Sakaguchi even saying that it is the closest to what he envisioned for the franchise.

7 Things I Want to See From the Final Fantasy VII Remake

No release date has been given just yet, with the trailer only stating that the game is “coming soon”, but judging from the screenshot it looks just like the Final Fantasy IX fans are used to, just perhaps a little clearer. This is the latest in a number of older games Square has brought to the PC platform, with Final Fantasy III, IV, V, VI, VII, and more already on PC as well as the highly successful MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which is also on PC.
