Final Fantasy XIV May Come To The Nintendo Switch

Square Enix is considering bring Final Fantasy XIV to the Nintendo Switch. This comes from game director Naoki Yoshida and would be a big help to Nintendo’s third party line up for the Switch.

During the recent Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Germany (via TheSixthAxis), Yoshida stated that the team would be willing to discuss with Nintendo about bringing the game to Switch. However, this will only happen if Nintendo is open to cross-platform play with PlayStation and PC, as the team doesn’t want to create a walled-off version of the game. This stipulation certainly makes sense. Square Enix has no clue how many Switch consoles will sell and how many of those would be interested in Final Fantasy XIV so they don’t want to make the worlds for those players empty. This is currently the reason why Final Fantasy XIV has yet to come to the Xbox One.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. However, support for the PlayStation 3 version will be dropped this June with the release of the Stormblood expansion.
