Leonard Nimoy, who was famous for his iconic role as Mr. Spock on Star Trek, died at his Bel-Air home Friday morning. Nimoy had been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Nimoy announced last year that he was battling COPD, which he attributed to many years of smoking. He had quit smoking 30 years ago.
Nimoy originated the role of Mr. Spock when the Star Trek TV series debuted in 1966, and he is the only actor to appear in every episode of the series. He continued to appear as Spock in the most recent Star Trek films, including the most recent reboot in 2013.
In addition to his acting roles, the multi-talented Nimoy was a director, the author of several books, a songwriter and a recording artist.
Nimoy tweeted for the last time on Feb. 22, saying … “A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP”
Leonard Nimoy was 83.
