Star Trek 3 could be filming about six months from now and with a confirmation date, a plausible release window and a couple of plot details have surfaced.
Roberto Orci will be writing the script and has recently turned in the first draft. He is also being eyed to helm the film since J.J. Abrams is working diligently on Star Wars: Episode 7. This would be Orci’s first time in the director’s chair, after taking on major roles working with Abrams on the two previous installments of the popular sci-fi franchise.
Paramount has yet to make an official announcement, but word is that filming could start in February 2015. The next big thing Trekkies should know is that the release date in theaters may coincide with the 50th anniversary in 2016, meaning a summer blockbuster.
SDCC 2014: Star Trek/Planet of the Apes Crossover Comic Announced
The plot is said to take place several years after Star Trek: Into Darkness and will focus more on deep space exploration over earth based adventures. It’s not a Star Trek movie until there are Klingons and Romulans.
The last bit of news would be the title. Hmm? Star Trek Into Darkness was a great title and Star Trek 3 is very bland. An official title hasn’t been revealed, so this is where you come in! Share your title ideas in the comments below.
