New ARK: Survival Evolved Update Adds Two New Prehistoric Creatures

ARK: Survival Evolved developer Studio Wildcard has released a new update for the game that adds two new creatures for players to fight against. A short trailer for these two new species was also released, which you can check out below.

The first new creature that’s being added to the game is the Dimetrodon, which as the developer explained “offers players shade during excessive heat and shelter from extreme cold by way of the massive insulating sail running down its back.” The Dung Beetle is the second creature being added, which the developer describes as “a wondrous organic biofactory that eats excrement and other useless waste then metabolizes it to produce burnable oil that can power generators and fertilize crops.” The new update also adds the ability to craft Beer Kegs into multiple drinks, which add certain effects.

Additionally, if you’re a fan of ARK, are a modder, and want to win some cash, Studio Wildcard has also announced the Worldwide Modding Contest, which will give away $60,000 in prizes. Mods will be judged in one of the three following categories: ‘Mods’, ‘Maps’ and ‘Total Conversions’. 15 winners will be chosen from each category, with the top five in each catergory winning the following cash prize:

  • 1st Place: $10,000 in each category
  • 2nd Place: $5,000 in each category
  • 3rd Place: $3,000 in each category
  • 4th Place: $2,000 in each category
  • 5th Place: $1,000 in each category

ARK: Survival Evolved is available now for the PC and Xbox One. And best of luck to all the modders who want to take part in the contest.
