Ex Machina Sci-Fi Movie Trailer

New ‘Ex Machina’ Trailer Wants to be Topical

Ex Machina has already premiered in the US (Eastern European Release still approaching), but that doesn’t mean that promotional trailers have stopped coming out for it.

The latest trailer is as much about the topic of Artificial Intelligence as it is about the movie. Plenty of trailers cut in critic quotes, but this Ex Machina trailer has ominous quotes from science community legends like Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking about how dangerous Artificial Intelligence is.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t say for sure how Ex Machina goes about handling artificial intelligence, but honestly, this topical marketing isn’t having much effect on me. If you’re going to tie an A.I. thriller into real world concerns on the subject, Skynet from the Terminator movies would likely be the most accurate metaphor. A supercomputing intelligence that was given responsibility over advanced weapons systems and human security is a more genuine danger to the continuity of humanity rather than one sexed-up self-consciously feminine A.I. stuck in a psychoanalytical Turing test. We’re much closer to having real world examples of the former than the latter.

But whatever. It’s a sci-fi A.I. thriller, and I’m still excited to see it. Ex Machina is out in US theaters now!
