Nintendo Will Reveal More About The Switch On January 12th

Were you excited over the initial reveal of Nintendo’s new console, the Switch, only to be bummed to know that the Nintendo wouldn’t reveal anything else for the rest of 2016? If so, I’ve got some (relatively) good news for you: while you’ll have to wait a until next year to hear more, you won’t have to wait as long, as Nintendo is holding a special Switch event on January 12th of next year.

The event was revealed by Nintendo of America’s Twitter account, which revealed that the special event will be streamed live in early January. “This will be an event for invited media, financial analysts, and trade partners in Tokyo that will be globally livestreamed on Jan. 12, U.S. time,” Nintendo of Japan later said in a press release. “The presentation will include the launch date and pricing for Nintendo Switch, as well as a look at the lineup of games currently in development.”

There’s no telling if there will be one stream for all regions, or if each region will have it’s own livestream (as has been the case for Nintendo Directs), but for now it’s pretty exciting, if not a bit expected, considering that the console will launch in March of 2017. The one thing that I’m sure we’re all wondering is what the price will be. While Nintendo themselves have said that they’re not going to sell the Switch at loss, they’re also listening to what consumers are saying when it comes to price, according to Wall Street Journal Tokyo tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki. Personally, I’m leaning for $299, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a bit higher. We’ll definitely know the price and much more come next January.
