Go Medieval With Overwatch’s New Castle Map

Today, Blizzard has revealed that Overwatch will be getting a brand new map. The map takes place in a castle-town called Eichenwalde.

This new map will be available to play in September, though if you’re attending Gamescom this week, you’ll be able to play the map at Blizzard’s booth. The map is an Assault/Escort hybird map, where one team must push a giant battering ram through the village up to the abandoned castle (complete with a drawbridge), while the opposing team must try to stop them. There are of course a couple of choke points throughout the opposing maps that a defending Hanzo or Widowmaker could take advantage of, so teamwork and being aware of one’s surroundings will make the difference between victory or defeat. The castle or town aren’t just for show either, as they play an important role with the game’s backstory. According to Blizzard, Eichenwalde is where Balderich, one of the original Crusaders, made his last stand against waves of Omnics during the Omnic Crisis; the Omnics in question were in fact the same model as everyone’s favorite walking turret Bastion.

Overwatch is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out a new video from Blizzard showing off the map below.
