It’s been apparent for a long time that Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman wasn’t going to exclusively feature the two titular heroes. Now we have confirmation from Ray Fisher, the actor playing Cyborg, that the part man, part machine superhero will be in the hotly anticipated film.
Fisher discussed his filming of Victor “Vic” Stone aka Cyborg with Entertainment Weekly. He reportedly completed filming his part for Batman V Superman back in July. Though he was unable to give any specific plot details, he did tell EW that his filming process brought him in contact with Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, but not Henry Cavill (Superman) and Ezra Miller (Flash).
Makes one wonder about how DC, Warner Brothers and Snyder are structuring the film.
Fisher also says that he was unsure of the extent to which his character would be involved in the DC Cinematic Universe. (Is that an official thing now? We can use that acronym now?) But he was pleasantly surprised to see that Cyborg would get his own feature film in 2020; “”I didn’t know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character. When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didn’t think I’d be getting my own stand-alone film.”
As with most of the superheroes in Batman V Superman other than the titular duo, it’s still unclear exactly what state they will be in or how much screen time they will get. One part of Fisher’s interview has got me troubled though; “We’re killing the comic-book movie, we’re ending it…Let me tell you, man, people are in for a hell of a treat.”
What does that mean? Why do some Hollywood studios have this bizarre preoccupation with making comic book characters and stories legitimate by adapting them to film? There is no shame in comic book movies, only a lack of enthusiasm or faith in the source material and one’s own creative vision. And I find your lack of faith disturbing.
You think Marvel has gotten the phenomenal success streak they have enjoyed by “killing the comic-book movie”? I don’t think so.
Batman V Superman will be killing the comic book movie in theaters March 25th 2016.
