Warning: Spoilers ahead!

As another episode of “The Walking Dead” closes, we find our group of survivors hopefully getting closer and closer to one another, and as the survivors move towards the same goal, we are slowly learning more about those we did not know much about in previous seasons or episodes. Last week, Beth’s character was given a significantly larger amount of depth than we witnessed, and this week we learned more about Bob and Sasha. And while the five groups of survivors all seem to be moving closer towards one another, the title of this week’s episode, “Alone,” is certainly a theme our characters are exploring as they either end up alone by their own will or against it.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 12 Review: “Still”

We begin with Bob walking alone through the woods. He finds various shelters and hides from walkers as the days pass. One night he sleeps on top of an abandoned trailer on the side of the road, and the next morning, when he leaves the trailer and walks down the road, Daryl and Glen approach him on their motorcycle and truck respectively. Daryl asks Bob if he is alone and how many walkers and people he has killed. Bob explains he was with two different groups in the past but they did not make it. He killed about one dozen walkers and one person, but only because she asked him to kill her. Daryl and Glen ask Bob if he would like to join their group and if he has any questions for them. Bob says he does not have any questions, but he will go with them. He rides off in the back of Glen’s truck, and we finally learn how Bob became part of the prison group.

Back in the present, Maggie, Sasha, and Bob protect each other’s backs as fog encompasses them and they hear walkers surrounding them. They kill the approaching walkers with knives and sticks, but quickly become overpowered. Sasha has to take out her gun to save both Maggie and Bob, and she accidently shoots Bob but in the left shoulder. Bob is OK and they wrap his shoulder to stop the bleeding. Sasha tells Maggie they only have 6 bullets left and they all agree they need to get out of the fog and find shelter. As they walk on the train tracks, they find the sign for Terminus. Maggie thinks Glen might be there and Bob thinks maybe Tyrese will be there, and they both think they should follow the signs. Sasha does not want to risk it, but she follows Maggie and Bob regardless.

Meanwhile, Daryl is teaching Beth how to use his crossbow and how to track prey. They come across a walker from behind and as Beth approaches it, she walks into an animal trap and falls. The walker hears Beth and comes towards her but Daryl saves her. As they continue to walk in the woods, they find a cemetery but Beth needs to rest her ankle. Daryl gives Beth a piggyback ride so she can rest her ankle and they walk into the cemetery. They come across the grave of a father and Daryl lays flowers on it as Beth holds his hand. They find a house on the outskirts of the cemetery and as they enter it, they notice the house is clean. It appears to be a mortuary. They find a freshly stocked cabinet of food and suggest someone recently stocked it. They decide to take some of the food and leave some behind. Beth finds a piano and sings while Daryl rests in one of the coffins.

Back in the woods, Bob wants to know why Sasha does not want to go to Terminus. She thinks they are going to die if they keep going, and she thinks Glen and Tyrese are likely dead. Sasha wants them to follow the tracks to the nearest town and find an abandoned house and stay there. Bob does not think that is the best solution. He believes looking for Glen and Tyrese gives them something to live for and he does not understand why Sasha is giving up on her brother.

The next morning, Sasha wakes up and finds Bob is staring at a message written in the dirt. The message is from Maggie and it says they should not risk their lives for her; Maggie left Bob and Sasha during the night to search for Glen on her own. Bob knows Maggie is following the train tracks and wants to catch up to her. Sasha is not very supportive but follows Bob anyway. As they walk, Sasha wants to know why Bob is smiling. He says he is happy he is not alone.

As Maggie walks on the train tracks, she finds another sign for Terminus. A walker approaches her and she stabs it in the head and stomach. She uses the blood from the walker to leave a message for Glen saying she is going to Terminus and he should follow.

Awhile later, Bob and Sasha come across Maggie’s sign so they know exactly where she is heading. That night Sasha keeps watch while Bob sleeps, but he cannot stay asleep. Bob wants to know why Sasha thinks Tyrese is dead. She does not answer him. Bob tells Sasha he thinks Tyrese would go to Terminus and they should go too.

Meanwhile, Daryl and Beth are eating in the house when they hear a noise outside. Daryl goes to check it out and it is a dog. The dog runs away from Daryl. Back in the kitchen, Beth writes a note to thank the people for their food. Daryl suggests they might not have to leave and that they could stay in the house and thank the owners when they get back. Daryl thinks they could stay in the house and live with whoever owns it. Beth wants to know what changed Daryl’s mind about people and he looks at her and says, “You know.” They hear the dog again and Daryl goes to let it in when a horde of walkers are outside. They invade the house and Daryl tells Beth to run. He fights off the walkers alone and finally manages to get out of the house. He finds Beth’s bag in the middle of the road and a car drives away as Daryl chases after it calling her name.

Bob and Sasha come across another sign from Maggie when they enter a town. Sasha wants to stop and stay in the town but Bob wants to keep following Maggie. He explains Maggie is alone and he does not want her to be alone. He explains how it felt to be alone and does not want anyone to feel that way. When Sasha does not seem like she is going to change her mind, Bob says he wants to try something, and kisses Sasha. Sasha kisses him back, but she choses to stay and Bob leaves Sasha to go find Maggie. Sasha stays in the town and goes into an abandoned building. She looks out the building window and sees Maggie laying in a parking lot next to some dead bodies. Sasha leans against the window and it falls out and crashes to the ground. Maggie sits up but all the walkers come out. Sasha rushes out of the building to help Maggie. They successfully fight off the walkers. Sasha wants to know why Maggie was there. Maggie explains she overheard Sasha and Bob’s conversation about Glen and Tyrese’s fate and how Sasha would rather stay in a town, thus Maggie knew she would come across her. Maggie explains she cannot find Glen alone and the search would not be in vain as Tyrese might be with Glen. Maggie convinces Sasha to look for Bob and go find Terminus together.

Back on the road, Daryl is running down the street trying to follow the car. He is exhausted and once he comes across the train tracks he sits down to rest. A group of men surround him and Daryl hits one of them. The men point their weapons at Daryl as the main guy, Joe, introduces himself and tells Daryl he would be a useful asset to their group. Daryl lowers his crossbow and introduces himself, assumedly joining the group. What Daryl does not know is this is the same group of men that took over Rick’s house a few episodes ago. It remains unclear who this group is and if they have anything to do with Terminus.

The episode ends with Sasha and Maggie catching up to Bob. Bob has a huge smiles as he hears the girls call out his name; he realizes he will not be alone again.

A few moments later somewhere on the train tracks, Glen finds the sign for Terminus.

So it seems all but one of our group of survivors are heading to Terminus. Hopefully in the next episode there was be a reunion of some sort between at least two of the groups. And now that neither Bob, Sasha, and Maggie will not be alone, Beth and Daryl have split up and are alone amongst strangers. I honestly have no idea who kidnapped Beth, but I hope the people have something to do with Terminus or perhaps Abraham Ford’s group. However, it is unnerving that whoever kidnapped Beth did not want Daryl, too. I also wonder if these kidnappers set the walkers on the cemetery house to distract Daryl and take Beth away. It all seems too suspicious. Nevertheless, this week’s episode was exciting and moved the story significantly forward. I really enjoyed learning more about Bob; he has always been a mysterious character but now that he know more about his past, it makes him more approachable and, like Abraham, his positivity will only help our survivors get through the mess they are currently in.
