Nintendo always seem to get things right. They’ve always been my number one company in the industry and never fail to amaze me with their wicked ways. Their consoles are great, but the games they release are better. They know exactly what will work on what console and they make it incredibly fun to play at all times. 2014 is looking really interesting for the Wii U, especially with some new and exclusive games coming out onto the market. Due to this, I have come up with the top 10 Wii U games of 2014!

Mario Kart 8 – Spring 2014

As an always fun game, it was impossible to keep this one off of the list. Whether you’re playing alone or with a few friends, it’s guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours. In the overall 11th installment of the Mario Kart franchise, good old Nintendo are adding anti gravity tracks to the show, meaning if driving upside down is your forte, this game is for you. Using a new added feature, Mario Kart TV will enable you to watch clips from the races of other players and comment on them. Mario Kart 8 is definitely one to put on your list of super exciting games to come out of 2014.

Super Smash Bros Wii U – TBA 2014

A new Super Smash Bros? Of course! Everyone loves playing Super Smash Bros, and a new installment has been a long time coming. A game that is packed full of battles using your favorite Nintendo characters, it’s fun for all the family. New characters have been added too, such as Megaman and Wii Fit Trainer, as well as Animal Crossing Villager. Unfortunately for us though, Nintendo have said that there will be no cross platform playing between the Wii U game and the 3DS game. But regardless, Super Smash Bros is one of the best fighting games of all time, and I for one, am crazy excited for a Wii U release.

Watch Dogs – Spring 2014

I was really happy when I heard that Watch Dogs was coming to Wii U. After being pushed forward until 2014 for release, it’s psyched the audience up even more for the upcoming Ubisoft game. How the gamepad will be incorporated into the gameplay is still being thought out, but there is speculation that Watch Dogs is actually a lot better on Wii U than other current gen consoles. Incredible.

Hyrule Warriors – TBA 2014

Hyrule Warriors was announced in late 2013 and is set for release this year. Being described as a crossover between The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, Link is set to fight classic Zelda enemies from the series in order to win battles and dominate parts of the world. After watching the trailer, my heart raced along with intense squealing coming from my voice box. Although the name ‘Hyrule Warriors’ may not be the final name for the upcoming Zelda game, it’s still pretty badass.

Monolith Soft’s X – TBA 2014

As a predecessor to Xenoblade Chronicles, ‘X’ is an open world RPG for the Wii U. You can even get to control huge mechs to travel, or if you like to explore every nook and cranny of the world, you can opt to travel on foot. Anything with huge mechas and exploration values in within a game is a really big bonus; it proves that it has replayablity, which is something that not many games can provide nowadays.

Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty – Spring 2014

Something that’s been waited on for years is actually happening. Abe is back and ready to take on the action in Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty. A complete reboot of the first chapter of Abe’s Oddysee is guaranteed to welcome older fans back with open arms and pulling in new fans to the franchise.

Tengami – TBA 2014

tengami

All I have to say about Tengami is that it looks unique. Its incredible graphical usage to create a pop up like world has completely blown me away. A world that is completely at your fingertips as you explore and manipulate your surroundings in order to progress and an added mystery aspect is always a winner in my books. Nyamyam is expected to make an announcement regarding the release date this month – so keep your ears and eyes open!

Yarn Yoshi – TBA 2014

With an art style similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Yarn Yoshi is a 2.5D side scroller in which you control Yoshi, swallow different items and gain different power ups. We weren’t able to see anything on Yarn Yoshi during Nintendo’s E3 Nintendo direct because they said it wasn’t ready to show yet, but hopefully we’ll get some gameplay this year. There is also no information on the story just yet, but it’s looking promising.

Project CARS – Autumn 2014

Currently in development by Slightly Mad Studios, Project CARS is a racing game which is possibly going to incorporate features using the gamepad to aid you while racing. Acting as a virtual steering wheel, the gamepad will be used as a high tech wheel, quite like a formula 1 car. Featuring over 30 tracks and over 100 cars, including F1 and F2 cars and even go-karts, you’re bound to get sucked into the world of Project CARS.

Bayonetta 2 – TBA 2014

bayonetta-2

A sequel to the 2009 game, Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive. Gameplay hasn’t been shown just yet as it’s not quite ready, but keep your eyes peeled for Nintendo’s E3 conference, where I’m sure they will show off more Bayonetta 2 goodness and give us more information on the upcoming hack and slash game. As the second in the Bayonetta series, she sports new costumes and even a haircut, which is surprising, because her hair made up her outfit and helped her in battles. But nonetheless, she’s looking ready to take on her next adventure.

So there we have it! Top ten Wii U games for 2014. I can’t wait for these releases, but if I’ve missed anything that you’re excited for make sure to let us know!
