YouTube Announces New Gaming App

YouTube has announced today that they are working on a brand new service that will focus on video games. Called YouTube Gaming, it will be a website and an app that will act as a hub for designed specifically to curate video gaming content. With the app, viewers will have the option of adding channels to their collections, which will allow for quick access, and can subscribe to the channels, alerting viewers to when a channel does a livestream. In addition, the app will enable users to filter out non-gaming content.

“When you want something specific”, Youtube product manager Alan Joyce said in a press release, “you can search in confidence, knowing that typing ‘call’ will show you ‘Call of Duty’ and not “Call Me Maybe’”. The app will be released sometime this summer, and will be released alongside some improved live streaming tools, such as streams being converted automatically into a Youtube video, and streams no longer having to be scheduled ahead of time. The service will also have 25,000 games with their own page.
