The Haunting Claustrophobia of NaissanceE on Steam February 13
The survival horror genre has recently seen a revival and renewed interest from the gaming masses. While classic games such as Resident Evil and Dead Space have stepped further into the ‘action’ category, titles such as The Last of Us have filled in the gap for triple-A titles. Indie gaming, however, and PC titles have been a sanctuary for traditional old school horror. Games like Slenderman focus on straight survival and fear, to great effect. The newest game, NaissanceE, just might be the most unsettling.
While not explicitly stated to be a horror game, NaissanceE evokes many of the tropes that give the genre life. Set in first-person view, you are to explore an ancient structure, with only a limited field of view. There is a glowing ball in front of the character that, when interacted with, will forge ahead and light the otherwise completely dark room. Combined with a minimalist soundtrack and ominous sound effects, NaissanceE looks to be a game that will be best enjoyed in a dark room with a nice pair of gaming headphones. If you feel brave enough, check out NaissanceE, which launches on February 13 on Steam for $19.99.
