YouTube’s ‘Karate Kid’ Sequel First Photo Revealed

Posted October 24, 2017 by

That’s right, people. YouTube’s Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai is really happening, and we have the pic to prove it.

Entertainment Weekly shared the first behind-the-scenes photo of original Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka on the set of Cobra Kai. Judging by the smiles and handshakes, one might think that these two actually like each other, unlike their karate-chopping alter egos, Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Keene.

The sequel series is still very early in production, so we will have to wait a little longer to see if the Karate Kid reboot plot lives up to our expectations.

Cobra Kai synopsis:

“Picking up 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the half-hour series finds Daniel and Johnny at different places in their lives. Whereas Daniel is living his best life as a family man and proud owner of the No. 1 car dealership in the Valley, Johnny has fallen a long way since the ’80s and is now a heavy drinking, short-fused antihero living in Reseda, doing odd jobs to make ends meet. However, their rivalry is reignited when they re-enter each other’s lives, which drives Johnny to rediscover his Cobra Kai roots and reopen the infamous karate dojo.”

The Cobra Kai cast will include Courtney Henggeler (Mom) as Daniel’s wife and business partner Amanda, Mary Mouser (Body of Proof) as their daughter Samantha, Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) as new Cobra Kai recruit Miguel Diaz and Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) as Johnny’s son, Robby Keene. Ed Asner will play Johnny’s stepfather, Sid Weinberg.

The Karate Kid franchise debuted in 1984 and spawned three sequels, a remake, a music video and two TV series.

Cobra Kai is expected to leg sweep YouTube viewers sometime in 2018.
