Hellblade is an interesting game to see be developed. Heavily influenced by Celtic mythology, the action adventure RPG centers around a young woman named Senua, who is charged with exploring a dark and brooding underworld while also contending with evil apparitions that come about from her own mind. Described as something of an independent AAA game by developer Ninja Theory, the developer is setting out to bring strong characters, an unique and engaging artistic vision, as well as high speed combat and gameplay to players everywhere. To help display that vision, Ninja Theory has uploaded six minutes of gameplay and B-roll footage, showing off what their new game has to see.
In the new gameplay footage, described as B-footage and snippets, we see Senua face off against a phantom apparition with a beast skull covering its head. Senua is able to fell the specter with sword in hand, trading blows with it until she’s able to get through to the sunlight. What follows is an atmospheric and somber look at the game’s world, the sprawling landscape, and the woods that await Senua on her journey of reflection and discovery. Check out the gameplay footage below. Hellblade is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2016.
