This Week’s Must-Watch Epic Anime: Attack on Titan
Even if you aren’t a fan of anime, chances are that you have heard of Attack on Titan (or Shingeki no Kyojin). Continuously growing in popularity, there is so much to love about this anime and it is easily one of the best to come out in 2013. Now that Attack on Titan has recently been added to Netflix’s Instant Watch, there is absolutely no excuse for you to not watch it. Or, if you prefer, it is also available via popular anime streaming service, Crunchyroll. But why exactly is Attack on Titan a must-watch? Well, Attack on Titan expertly conveys tones of horror while evoking emotional qualities that could bring tears to a grown man, along with having underlying hints of romance yet combating that with intense, badass combat scenes. Besides, who wouldn’t want to watch an anime in which the enemies are giant, naked, humanoid creatures that constantly have a terrifying grin on their faces and devour humans simply for pleasure? No one, that’s who.
Attack on Titan follows the stories of three young adults: Armin Arlert, Mikasa Ackerman, and front man Eren Jaeger. These three best friends are forever confined inside the small territory of Wall Maria, which is surrounded by a large wall to protect its citizens from the gigantic, human-craving Titans that had once nearly wiped out humankind 100 years prior. The citizens live in fear of the Titans and live their lives caged like livestock, but none seem to mind this. None, aside from Eren.
When the false security of Wall Maria is crumbled by the ferocious, flesh-craving Titans, the lives of these three young adults is completely turned upside down. Vowing to take vengeance on the Titans for destroying the one place they called home and those that they loved, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa join the front lines in hopes of wiping out the Titans. But unfortunately, this new life path yields a vast amount of emotional and physical turmoil, both for the characters, and the viewers who can’t help but grow attached to the characters.
Attack on Titan is full of action and gore and conveys a truly unique and intricate story, making it appealing to even those who aren’t fans of anime. Similarly, if you are looking to get into anime, Attack on Titan would be a great place to start. Dive into the stories of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin through Netflix or Crunchyroll and see why this epic anime is worthy of a Must-Watch!
