One of the biggest modes to be added to Halo 5: Guardians is the Warzone Mode, where two teams of 12 players each (with a total of 24 players in all) must fight on huge sprawling maps, taking out other players and achieving certain objectives. It’s certainly an ambitious mode, and recently developer 343 Studios pulled back the curtain a bit and talked a bit about what went into making the mode.

“We want to ensure we spawn players in the action, but provide spawns safe enough for players to take a breather in what can often be a chaotic experience, especially late game,” said Multiplayer Design Director Kevin Franklin said over on the official blog for the game. “Throughout development, the Warzone team has been very passionate about evolving the spawn system—our design goals were simple, let players not worry about spawning if they don’t want to, but provide control if they’d like to spawn close or far from the action, or at/near a specific team base.” In addition, due to the size of many of the maps-often 4 or 5 times bigger than a regular multiplayer map- respawning in this mode has changed. Instead of having a set respawn point, respawning in Warzone will be more dynamice, respawning players closer to points where the action is, a spawn system that 343 has dubbed “bro-spawning”.

Halo 5: Guardians is set to release on October 27th exclusively on the Xbox One.
