Titanfall 2 Didn’t Sell Well, But EA Is Still Committed To The Series
During a recent earnings call, EA executive Blake Jorgensen told investors what many had expected: Titanfall 2 sold below expectations. Despite this, Jorgensen said that EA is still committed to the series.
“We sold less Titanfall 2 than we expected and we sold more Battlefield 1 than we expected”, Jorgensen said. According to one analyst firm, the game’s release date-which for reference, is October 28th-may have played a part in the game’s low sales. That’s because it had to compete with Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, as the latter released the week before Titanfall 2 and the latter released a week after. Despite these poor sales, however, CEO Andrew Wilson is still convinced that the series still has a future.
“We’re very excited about Titanfall 2,” Wilson said. “We think that game’s going to sell for a really long time. As we said in our prepared remarks, it’s one of the highest-rated shooters of the generation. It’s also got some of the highest NPS scores across our portfolio. So, people playing the game, they’re having a great time. We remain committed to that relationship. We remain committed to Titanfall. And we look forward to doing a lot more Titanfall 2 over the year to come.”
Later on, EA added that while the game didn’t sell well, overall player satisfaction with Titanfall 2 is “among the highest” of all games in the publisher’s portfolio. Only time will tell what will happen to the series, as a recent mobile game was cancelled, though according to EA, there are some “long term plans” in the works for the series. An E3 reveal perhaps?
