Perhaps there are still moviegoers out there who are fans of the Marvel movies but aren’t that invested in the continuity to care about the difference between the Captain America films and the Avengers films. With so many recognizable faces set to appear in Civil War, many fans could be forgiven for worrying that the movie will feel like an Avengers movie.

Chris Evans, the Star Spangled Man himself, assures us that Civil War will very much feel like a Captain America film. As per his recent interview with Disney D23 Magazine;

“Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark. … It’s exciting to see a guy who’s as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him — that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life.”

This makes for a decidedly different perspective on the Civil War in the upcoming film than in the comics. The Civil War arc was a major crossover event with different parts of the story being told in different character’s comics. Since the story will only be told from Captain America’s perspective, some of that complexity may have to be cut. This goes back to questions I’ve had before about the Civil War movie about how they would portray the motivations of Iron Man and the other characters opposed to Captain America. Will Marvel really make Iron Man out to be the “bad guy” in Civil War?

We’ll find out May 6th!
