Many fans shutter at the thought of a “remake” of their favorite series, but the upcoming “Evil Dead” has quickly created buzz after premiering at SXSW. After the premiere, co-writer Rodo Sayagues, in an interview with Bloody Disgusting, only added to that buzz by confirming that a sequel is in the works.

“Fede [Alvarez, director of Evil Dead] and I are writing that now,” says Sayagues. “We are in a very preliminary phase of that project, but yes we’re working on it. And it’s not going be a remake of the second Evil Dead.”

Sayagues continued to speak more about the project and how the tone would not be similar to the original “Evil Dead 2″. “It’s going to be more over the top. The escalation is going to continue. “

As a loyal Evil Dead fan I was a little disappointed with some of the alterations. But once again Rami’s blunt absurdity gave this movie a clever wit of its own. The new Evil Dead is extremely gory, definitely scary and very creepy. The well done graphic images are hard to forget and likely to give nightmares. As far as horror movies go I think the new rendition stands on its own merit. And it had to at the Sacramento premiere when a representative surprised fans announcing that they would be giving away special Evil Dead t-shirts. Then came out with them, walked to the back of the line, and began handing shirts to people arriving and then each person starting at the back of the line. When ?? rep claimed they might not make it in. Then she personally requested those lucky t-shirt receivers move to the press seats she was opening for them. Really cool.. sweet… Yah maybe have a kid in that group or something really. I would like to personally say I found it all in bad taste and an unnecessary distraction that was a bit insulting and in no way witty. No one that invested several hours came there for a free t-shirt, a free movie or to feel insulted. They came to enjoy the event together and have fun. Why mention anything to people that were excluded from participating because they were there for hours ???huh??? Then give them to people that hadn’t heard anything and were getting in… Those people that were stupid enough to get excited thinking that at least someone they knew would get one deserve an apology.
