What is Black Panther’s Role in Captain America Civil War?
As the Wakandan prince, we don’t exactly know how T’Challa a.k.a. Black Panther becomes involved in the superhero registration conflict, set to be explored in the upcoming Captain America Civil War. Posters and trailer footage would lead us to believe that he’ll be fighting alongside Iron Man. But, according to actor Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther won’t necessarily assign his allegiance to either of the two sides in the conflict.
Boseman says that T’Challa isn’t a typical superhero; “[He’s] not on anybody’s team. It’s my political mission to tame it and get it under control.”
So from there it can be inferred that Black Panther will be allying himself with Iron Man more out of a desire to capture Bucky Barnes specifically, rather than in support of the superhero registration. Some fans have speculated that it will be revealed that Bucky ran afoul of Wakanda or its current king while brainwashed to be the Winter Soldier. This could be a more personal motivation for Black Panther.
The trickle of little details and context is so tantalizing at this point. I am ready for this movie to be out yesterday! But we’ll still have to wait until May 6th.
