Skullgirls has seen an interesting development and release history. Initially released in 2012, the game was swapped around amongst publishers and developers before reemerging as Skullgirls Encore on PSN and Steam earlier this year. Originally envisioned as a series of mixed characters strung together in a fighting game, Skullgirls broke onto the scene as a breakout hit in early 2011 when Konami announced they would be seeing distribution for the game. When Konami dropped it in 2012 and the entire development team was laid off, it wasn’t until Skullgirls received immense fan reception in the 2013 Evolution Championship Series fighting game tournament, that new life was breathed into the franchise.

Lab Zero Games will soon be able to notch PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 for their broadway themed fighting game, as the game will be breaking onto those platforms later this year according to a post by Lab Zero Games CEO on the PlayStation Blog earlier today. Features in the works for the two newest versions include local multiplayer with both DualShock 3 and 4 controllers, compatibility with the PlayStation TV microconsole for the Vita version, and others. Skullgirls Encore is also available on Windows PC and Xbox 360.
