According to the founder of Avalanche Studios, Christofer Sundberg, the recent release of Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 will mark the “end of an era” as he predicts the demise of Call of Duty and then comments on what he believes Battlefield will need to do in order to survive. Speaking via his personal Twitter account, Sundberg said “I predict the end of an era with #CoDGhosts and #BF4. I don’t believe in the future for CoD and I believe that BF will live on as an MP game.” When asked about the possibility of Call of Duty also living on as a multiplayer experience Sundberg said ” I don’t think there is room for both unless they are DRASTICALLY different and publishers find new ways to monetize the players.”

Wesley Yin-Poole then suggests that adopting a free to play business model might be the way to go commenting on how Call of Duty and Battlefield both already have free-to-play versions available to which Sundberg said “If they don’t call it F2P I think that can be successful. Build it as a platform, make players invest and get them hooked.”

Battlefield 4 launched on current generation consoles on October 29th while Call of Duty: Ghosts hit the stores at midnight last night. Both games will be available from launch on the next generation of consoles and early reports are that both games are performing as well as expected.
