When the E3 demo for Rainbow Six: Siege was shown at E3, some people noted that only a female hostage was visible. Not to be taken as sexist, Ubisoft technical artist Oliver Couture stated in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun noted that the game will feature male hostages as well. Furthermore, Oliver commented that Rainbow Six: Siege will try to define the next-gen with the hostage, “We call that a ‘living hostage.’ So she’ll react to explosions and things like that. It’s pretty cool.”

he said. Oliver went on to say that hostages will react accordingly to their environment, ducking to gunfire, coughing to dust, be able to move into different positions with very fluid controls. While are some are surprised that Ubisoft would invest the effort into different genders and features for hostages, in this age of diversity in games being an evermore hot button issue, it would seem to be a requirement. Rainbow Six: Siege is due in 2015 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
