Thanks to a new dev diary from Naughty Dog, we now know that the environments set for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End are going to be 10 times larger than the past entries. Naughty Dog explains how recent technology is helping them reach the lofty expectations of fans.

The diary does an admirable job of covering many facets of the game’s design. One of the most interesting quotes, though, comes very early in the diary entry when technical art director Teagan Morrison says that his rough estimate for the size of the game is around “10 times the size” of any Uncharted game that came before it. This huge number is even more impressive since it is only talking about explorable space. The developers mention that the huge size is mostly possible due to the multiple routes to each objective.

The diary also covers another main point of any Uncharted game, the narrative. The developers mentioned that they intend to remove any disconnect with the player with cut-scenes by making them all happen in game and by removing the black loading screen bar between phases for a more natural transition.  After a few delays, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is now set to release May 10 exclusively for the PlayStation 4; and with the game recently going gold, that seems to be a very set release date.
