Motion picture Claptrap bears several similarities to the video game character, such as his the inverted trapezoid shape of its body and yellow and white paint job. The character also has a single lens eye, a singular tire, and the Claptrap’s signature mechanical claw-like arms.

The Borderlands movie follows Lilith’s (Cate Blanchett) quest to return to the Pandora to find the missing daughter of “the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas.” On her quest, she encounters a cast of familiar Borderlands characters from the video game franchise including Dr. Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), Moxxi (Gina Gershon), Commander Knox (Janina Gavankar) and Krieg (Florian Munteanu).

The production team has not yet revealed the specific role Claptrap will play in the movie, but he is expected to play a pivotal role.

The film, which is said to be highly faithful to the original look-and-feel of the Borderlands video game series, is being directed by Eli Roth and scripted by Craig Mazin, and is expected to arrive in theaters in 2022.
