True Blood reboot coming to HBO

A True Blood Reboot is Coming to HBO

Will Sookie and Bill be making a comeback?

Watch out – a True Blood reboot is coming for your necks! HBO has announced that they are planning a reboot of the popular vampire series, which originally aired on HBO from 2008-2014. The reboot is in development by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and will bring back series creator Alan Ball as Executive Producer.

HBO’s True Blood series is loosely based on the dark-yet-campy bestselling vampire novel series by Charlaine Harris. Set in Bon Temps, Louisiana, the show stars Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic abilities who falls in love with civil war-era vampire Bill Compton, played by Stephen Moyer. The series was named for the synthetic blood substitute – True Blood – that the vampires imbibe to live peacefully among humans. The formula must have worked because Paquin and Moyer were wed in 2010.

In addition to Paquin and Moyer, the popular series starred Alexander Skarsgard, Rutina Wesley, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Nelsan Ellis, Joe Manganiello, Chris Bauer, Carrie Preston, and Kristin Bauer van Straten.  The is no word yet on possible plot lines or whether any of the original cast members will be returning. It’s a safe bet that you can expect a healthy serving of blood.

The True Blood series drew parallels to LGBTQ rights issues, as vampires fought for equality among Christian conservatives who saw them as evil. True Blood was, at the time, HBO’s most-watched series since The Sopranos.
