There are endless possibilities for undead non-player characters and enemies for video games. There’s nurses with twisted, morphed faces that shuffle and stumble everywhere, there’s characters with giant metal framed pyramids on their heads, scantily clad and covered in blood, and then there are ones that spit out giant balls of mutated stomach acid, that, upon reaching the ground, expands into a large pool.
Released in 2009, Left 4 Dead 2 was out on shelves within a year of its predecessor’s release, Left 4 Dead, presenting us with improved characterisation and personality, and more zombie shooting goodness while keeping its classic B-movie tone.
The Spitter, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, made its debut in Left 4 Dead 2 and is one of the most recognizable enemies in the game. Spitters are a Special Infected with the ability to projectile mutated stomach acid that turns into a large pool that can do up to seventy-six points of damage per spit. Their skin glows a luminous green colour when they are alive, and their acid even glows in the dark. When a Spitter is killed, they leave a pool of acid around their corpse, and their body turns a pale pink color due to the acid being spontaneously released upon death. Lovely!
I’m a sucker for zombies and B-movies, and I love seeing zombie cosplayers at conventions and just being in awe at how much work they put into their prosthetics and makeup. What’s even more special is how they manage to stay in character all day, shuffling along, moaning, like it’s a natural inborn ability. As a special effects and horror enthusiast, this is one of my favorite things ever. There is just so much to love about Chilean cosplayer, Naty2j’s splitter cosplay. It’s terrifying and it’s oozing with blood and so much skill and awesomeness. The teeth, the split jaw and the prosthetic work make this cosplay thrilling and epic.
