ECCC Coronavirus

Coronavirus Takes Out Emerald City Comic-Con 2020

Just days before the highly anticipated Emerald City Comic-Con (ECCC) convention, its organizers have postponed the event over coronavirus concerns. Regrettably, they’re now planning to reschedule the event for summer instead of its proposed March 12 -15 launch date. The decision came after closely monitoring COVID-19’s progress and taking official public health recommendations under advisement, according to its sponsors.

Several US cities have reported COVID-19 cases, including Seattle, where ReedPop stages the expo every year. Despite this unplanned development, Emerald City Comic-Con is optimistic about the possibility of rescheduling the convention for the summer. ReedPop is already in dialog with the convention center gatekeepers in Washington State and Visit Seattle discussing possible dates.

Amid the fast spread of coronavirus, few top publishers, including Dark Horse, and DC made an early exit. Also, some ECCC creators pulled out at the last minute. ReedPop maintains that the ECCC team considered every prospect of keeping the event on course, but the risks outweigh the benefits. The organization promises to keep the audience in the know regarding any forthcoming developments, as it awaits positive news.

Emerald City Comic-Con benefactor ReedPop, appreciates the feedback it’s received from fans, supporters, and participating creators in the past weeks. It was a critical resource in helping the team decide how to move forward. In the meantime, it will be refunding tickets and is asking the public to allow up to 30 days for reimbursements.

ReedPop apologizes for any inconvenience the postponement of the convention has caused. They understand that the decision might upset some individuals, specifically those that depend on the platform as a source of livelihood. In this downtime, it remains committed to highlighting the incredible contributions made by its community of creators. In the days and weeks ahead, it will use the platform to celebrate these individuals. Also, it wants to thank everyone for their continued support and understanding during this difficult time.

Every year, the ECCC lends its platform to empowering comic book creators looking for exposure and fans craving the experience. The event attracts a massive audience of 100, 000 annually.

As the situation develops with COVID-19, more conventions and other large gatherings are being forced to consider postponing or canceling in the interest of public health. What does this crisis mean for other Comic-Cons? Only time will tell.
