Final Fantasy XIV Goes Out With a Bang

Square Enix shut down Final Fantasy XIV on Sunday as part of a recently announced plan to remake the MMO. While the game had long been criticized for being an unpolished product, there was nothing unpolished about the cinematic that ended Final Fantasy XIV. The cut scene, titled ‘End of an era’, showed the conclusion of the Seventh Umbral Era event. The Eorzean Alliance and the Garlean Empire clashed on the battlefield as a massive meteor called Dalamud crashed into the world of Hydaelyn. All of this happened while music composed by longtime series fixture Nobuo Uematsu played.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is slated for release in 2013, with the beta period set to begin before the year ends. It will look to address a laundry list of complaints lodged against the original game and bring Square Enix to the forefront of MMOs.
