Gearbox Doesn’t Have Plans For Third Borderlands

Borderlands-2-Krieg-the-Psycho-1

Gearbox has certainly stamped on a good named for the popular franchise, especially with a long list of DLCs for the second installment over the last two years. With a couple of titles that could have tarnished the Gearbox name, fans should not get their hopes up over a third game since there is no work on one nor plans to start one at this point in time. CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford sat down in an interview with Polygon and talked about their current intentions with the epic shooter. “We are not working on Borderlands 3. That is unqualified. We have more to do in the franchise, but there isn’t a Borderlands 3.”

Granted, the main idea is to always go bigger than the last, Pitchford continued, “When you think of what Borderlands 3 should be, it should be massive. It should be bigger and better than Borderlands 2. It should carry forward the story. It’s probably crazy multiplatform, depending on timing. It would have to be a next-gen game and a current-gen game, if it was coming at any time in the reasonably near future.”

While Gearbox understands the sincerity of their fans and how passionate they are about Borderlands, we do have Telltales’ Tales of the Borderlands as well as the new PS Vita bundles which has an exclusive Borderlands bundle. Believe it or not, Gearbox approved the Tales of the Borderlands via TellTale, “I couldn’t say yes fast enough. Like, hell yeah.”

Let us know your thoughts on the Borderlands 3 being a no-go at this point and TellTales new addition to the franchise that Gearbox green lighted; because this is one piece of news that could potentially break the hearts of Borderlands fans. A sequel would look fantastic on those new next-gen consoles, don’t you agree?
